Existing Framing
If you currently have sloped floors, or are concerned about the adequacy of your existing floor framing to support a piano, kitchen island, or a tile floor covering, call Atlanta Structural for a thorough evaluation by a registered structural engineer. Don't let a contractor guess what needs to be done. We can give you the peace of mind that your deck can safely support that upcoming dinner party, or provide the necessary reinforcement recommendations. You will receive a written report of the findings and recommendations with an engineers seal. Atlanta Structural can also design code compliant beams and other framing members to safely support any loading condition required, as well as provide final inspections and certification letters of the repairs.
Beams to Replace Existing Walls
A common desire during a renovation project is to remove part or all of an existing wall. Parents want to see and engage their children or guests in the family room while cooking in the kitchen, or need a bigger space for that new pool table. Atlanta Structural can provide consulting for space planning or to determine if a wall is load-bearing, as well as design a code compliant beam to safely support the floors and roof above the new opening.
Keep in mind that most jurisdictions require a permit and inspections for any structural changes. Don't get caught in a situation where your project is almost complete and the city or county issues a STOP WORK notice. They may demand you remove trim, drywall, and floor coverings to allow inspections of the framing, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical before you can continue. Future buyers of your house may also want to see documentation that the renovation was properly permitted and inspected. We encourage you to work with contractors that want to construct in accordance with the code and have their work inspected and passed.
Atlanta Structural provides certification letters with an engineers seal for all members we design that can inform the contractor as to what size joists, beams, columns, and or footing may be required for your project. This letter can also be used by the contractor for pricing and by the city to pass inspections.
